In March 2022, Johns was arrested after causing a collision on the Pacific Highway. The former Silverchair frontman recorded a blood-alcohol reading over three times the legal limit. Despite Johns pleading guilty to drunk driving, the court didn’t send him to prison, with the judge saying prison wouldn’t benefit the ‘deeply troubled’ musician.

Johns responded to the rumors during a late January 2008 performance at Big Day Out in Melbourne. “I’m not fucking gay,” Daniel said between songs.

Daniel Johns and DJ Lauren Mac were linked in January 2022 after she was spotted leaving Daniel’s hometown of Newcastle.
“Daniel has had a lot of heartbreak over the years so it’s nice to see him happy once again,” a source speaking to Daily Mail Australia said. “He adores Lauren and who knows she could be ‘The One’.”
The source added that Lauren had fallen hard for Johns: “Daniel is unlike anyone she’s met in the past and I know privately she has high hopes for this relationship. He’s a real catch and she knows it.”
Johns previously dated Michelle Leslie, with rumors stating they were engaged. The pair dated secretly for nearly a year before going public with their relationship in 2017.
In late 2018, Leslie was spotted wearing a diamond ring on her wedding finger. She told Stellar magazine she had no news to share but was satisfied with her relationship. Michelle said:
“We’re super happy, really happy. We just want to keep our private life to ourselves. I think I’ve managed to find the place where I am really happy. It just took me a minute.”
