Is Brian Tyree Henry gay? His sexuality is unclear
Brian Tyree Henry had the honor of playing one half of Marvel’s first same-sex couple. Eternals has many firsts, but that is perhaps its most significant of all. Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation’s Director of Entertainment Research & Analysis, Megan Townsend, wrote an op-ed on Variety about the importance of the LGBTQ+ roles:
“During the premiere screening of Eternals, I will never forget hearing the entire theater erupt into clapping and cheering when Phastos [played by Brian] and Ben finally kissed. It is clear that this is what audiences have been waiting for.”

Henry feels that having LGBTQ+ characters in films can save lives
Brian feels that having LGBTQ+ representation can save lives. Henry told Variety it could help people cope and embrace their authentic selves, which is something he didn’t experience as a kid:
“I wish I had that when I was a kid to see this. My god. I wish! Can you imagine how many lives this is going to be saving – kids, young queer folk, who are being bullied, committing suicide, and not seeing themselves being represented? And now they get to see this – it’s above and beyond.”
Henry loved that his character, Phastos, chose love despite the high chance of losing his husband and son. Phastos can’t die, yet he got into relationships with two people he might watch pass away. Brian said:
“What I really loved most about Phastos is that through all of that – him being eternal, him never being able to die – he still chose love. He still decided to have a family, even though he may have to watch them perish.”
